Mon, July 11, 2005 - 3:37 PM<<What's your opinion on dress up nights? For them? Against them?
I don't mind one night, but I think one is enough.

Re: Dress up or not?
Thu, April 19, 2007 - 6:00 PMI do not mind dress up nights. But, especially when we fly to take a cruise, I hate to pack a tux or suit. I think the ship should always provide an option. We had 4 formal nights on the Seabourn Spirit plus 5 elegant casual nights (jacket required)on the Seabourn Spirit in Asia. It was way too much. -

Thu, April 19, 2007 - 6:02 PMI love to dress up because i rarely get to do it at home.

Re: Dress up or not?
Thu, April 19, 2007 - 6:19 PMI like dressing up for dinner, I think it adds to the experience. I think I sunconsiously shop for semi-formal dresses that I can wade up into a ball and wear right out of the suitcase because the last few dresses I have bought dont need to be iorned! -

Re: Dress up or not?
Fri, April 20, 2007 - 8:11 AMI do that too... And if you need anything touched up you can do it with the ships laundry service. But the formal wear is the last thing to go into the suitcase and the first thing to come out.. And most of dh's shirts are a blend so they don't wrinkle. -

Re: Dress up or not?
Sat, April 21, 2007 - 6:30 PMDepends on my mood.
I always bring a tux but once in a while I will skip the dress up and just hang out.
Not often, but I have done this maybe twice.

Re: Dress up or not?
Mon, April 23, 2007 - 10:13 AMHi, I'm new to this tribe and just returned yesterday from a seven day cruise to 'the exotic western caribbean'. We had two formal nights and I was under-dressed at both. I'd have to say I'm against formal nights - too much drama packing, dressing, make-up, etc.

Re: Dress up or not?
Mon, April 23, 2007 - 6:00 PMDo you all prefer early or late seating at night?
I prefer late myself this way I can make more use of the stops at the ports. -

Re: Dress up or not?
Mon, April 23, 2007 - 6:42 PMWe usually have early seating because i can't eat so late at night...
The last 3 cruises we've been lucky that both formal nights have been on days at sea.. Lots of time to get ready!!

Re: Dress up or not?
Tue, April 24, 2007 - 12:41 AMEarly seating because I prefer to eat early. If we are returning late from something we hit the buffet
-
Re: Early or Late seating?
Tue, April 24, 2007 - 3:03 AMI actually prefer the open seating, eat when and where you like. Otherwise I like late seating but my spouse prefers early, so we eat early. Shouldn't we put this in a new thread?

Welcome, Mary. Hope you enjoyed your cruise :) I don't know what line you sailed, but my last cruise in Jan. on RCCL, formal nights are not near what they used to be. Why, there were even people in jeans and shorts there <G> I'm not kidding! You see everything from tuxes and formals to suits and cocktail dresses to slacks w/nice shirt and capri outfits to the same with a nice skirt and top. I don't worry about it anymore, just for the reasons that you mentioned!!!

Re: Dress up or not?
Wed, April 25, 2007 - 2:38 PMI **LOVE** dress-up nights. Well, when people actually dress. It's so nice to have an occasion to wear a gown, be served at dinner, see a good show...I don't get that very often. :) -

Re: Tuxedo?
Thu, April 26, 2007 - 2:54 AMI had one made in 1970 in Hong Kong for $42. Had to get rid of it last year as it did not fit any more. It was still in good shape. I had a new one made on our trip to Asia in March. It cost $700! With rentals at $150, I only need to wear it one more time (fifth time) to break even.
